Eat outdoors in Kristiansand – local tips from Maja and Dan
What are the best places for outdoor dining in Kristiansand right now? We asked the local couple and food enthusiasts Maja and Dan, known both as creative freelancers and food critics for Fædrelandsvennen. Here, they share their top picks – from sunny spots to hidden gems with unique character.
Locally known foodies
Maja and Dan are a married couple, both born and raised in Kristiansand. They live what they call “the full adult package”, house, kids, cat, and a station wagon – and both work as freelancers in marketing and film. In recent years, they’ve also been food critics for Fædrelandsvennen, closely following the city’s vibrant restaurant scene.
We like to share food experiences through our own lens, and we’re very passionate about what’s happening on Kristiansand’s food scene, says Dan.
The couple adds that the best thing about city life in Kristiansand is its location close to the sea and how everything is within easy reach. You’re never far from a breather, and it’s absolutely lovely to grab a good coffee or some takeaway and head to the waterfront. Kristiansand is (luckily) a city that’s constantly evolving, and they enjoy following the new additions to the local food scene. Both also have experience from the restaurant industry – Maja as a waitress and Dan as both a chef and kitchen manager.
That probably makes us cheer a little extra for those who dare to invest in great experiences here in the city. We need every single good initiative when it comes to food and drink, and we definitely encourage everyone to make use of our city, says Maja.
We asked Maja and Dan to share some of their favorite spots for enjoying food and drinks outdoors – and why these places stand out.
Brasseriet at Kunstsilo
We simply have to mention Brasseriet. Located in the iconic Kunstsilo building at Silokaia, Brasseriet combines striking architecture with a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Here, you’ll enjoy stunning views, sunshine, and design – perfect for both lunch and dinner.
Must-try: The green “byggotto” – a risotto-style dish made with barley and packed with flavor.
Flua Pizza
Flua Pizza might just serve the best pizza in town, all in a cozy and listed wooden house full of authentic Posebyen charm. Sourdough crust and top-quality ingredients.
Must-try: The pizza with salsiccia and friarielli – bold Italian flavors with a serious punch.
Tilstede mat og mer
Here you’ll get sustainable food of high quality. The menu changes with the seasons, and everything is made with fresh, local ingredients. It’s honest, genuine food.
Must-try: Go for the “Dagens hav” for a guaranteed great seafood dish, or choose the massive and delicious “Biggie Green” salad!
Finally, we asked if there’s a hidden gem not everyone knows about, but that they believe deserves more attention.
It might not be so hidden anymore, but the Wine Bar at Mølla definitely deserves a shout-out for what they’ve created in Grim. A playful wine list, fantastic atmosphere, and exciting events with guest chefs and delicious menus. A perfect destination for warm summer evenings in Sørlandet
Whether you live in the city or are just visiting – Maja and Dan recommend exploring Kristiansand’s outdoor dining scene with an open mind and a healthy appetite. Sunshine, flavour, and atmosphere await!
