Ryan Marchese is one of Southern Norway's best professional fishing guides, and he operates AnglerPilot, which provides guided fishing trips throughout Southern Norway. In this article, he offers some tips on where to find the famous sea trout in Lindesnes.

The southernmost municipality of Norway is best known for its summery archipelagic life, consisting of many bathing beaches, a beautiful coastline, and a simple lifestyle that attracts many. What is not so well-known is that it has much more to offer than just this; it is, in fact, an exceptionally good region for sea trout fishing. Lindesnes can boast not only of having them often in large numbers but also of frequently capturing the largest sea trouts in the entire Southern Norway! The largest one so far is a fine fish weighing 9.5 kg, caught in the spring of 2014.

Skjernøya

Norway's southernmost inhabited island, is exposed to the raw, salty elements and is home to what many consider the perfect example of a sea trout. Since the island is quite developed with cabins and houses, it is sometimes easier to fish from a boat, while the open area on the southern part of the island can be explored on foot for hours. Here, you'll find attractive bays in the small fjord system of Ystevågen and out towards the sea. You can launch the boat via the boat ramp at Tregde Feriested, rent a boat there, or park at the chapel on Skjernøya and set out on foot.

Harkmarksfjorden

the easternmost part of the Lindesnes fjord systems, has over the years produced many fine sea trouts. The large stream northwest in Harkmarksfjorden adds a lot of freshwater, making this fjord very brackish. A variety of other small streams create ideal living and breeding conditions for sea trout. Here, you'll find many small bays and straits with attractive currents, and eelgrass jungles that are natural magnets for sea trout. The fjord is equally enjoyable to explore by boat as it is on foot via beautiful trails. There's only one place to launch the boat, but ample parking is available at the designated locations.

Furulunden

At the outer edges of the forest, there is a wide selection of beaches with eelgrass banks, rocky cliffs, and strong currents. Essentially, any spot here is a perfect place for sea trout. Further into the fjord, which is quite brackish due to the Sjølingstad stream supplying freshwater to the northwestern end of this fjord, one can expect the fish to take on a slightly browner appearance. Throughout this area, you can fish for hours and are almost guaranteed to catch something. Although the average size of the fish here is somewhat smaller, don't be surprised if you hook a large one. If fishing from the shore, especially along the beaches, waders can be advantageous, and boat fishing is just as effective. Three boat ramps to choose from with good parking options. Additionally, there's a campground, cabins, and apartments in Furulunden itself for overnight stays.

Sniksfjorden

is the area in Lindesnes that consistently produces the largest sea trouts. Don't expect to catch fish here easily, but be prepared for it to be large if you get one on the hook! Here, sea trout hunt among and along the cobblestone shore and also along the small beaches. Waders are undoubtedly necessary for fishing among the rocks on the east side of the fjord; otherwise, fishing from a boat makes it much easier here. If you're fishing on the west side of Sniksfjorden, it's a good walk from the parking lot, but don't forget to fish in the small coves along the way that house some surprises. Otherwise, on the east side, there are good parking facilities and camping opportunities in the forest here.

Kjerkevågen

This bay is often very underrated as a fishing spot but is one of my personal favorites. It consistently delivers what many consider perfect examples of sea trout, silver, black-spotted, and robust. A mix of sand and cobblestones creates a typical environment that attracts fish all year round. Best explored either by waders or by boat.
