Experience Tvedestrand in two days

Tvedestrand is a coastal town with a relaxed atmosphere and an easy going pace. Here, you can stroll through small streets, enjoy the charm of wooden houses, and explore the archipelago. In two days, you will get a good taste of what makes the town special.


 

Day 1:

The first day in Tvedestrand offers a pleasant mix of history, good flavours, and genuine Southern Norway charm. You will gain insight into the town’s rich cultural heritage while also having time to enjoy life by the sea.

Næs Jernverksmuseum

Start the day with a visit to Næs Jernverksmuseum and experience an important part of Norwegian industrial history. The museum tells the 300 year story of how iron and steel were produced in the past, and what everyday life was like for those who worked at the ironworks. From here, you can continue to Solberg gruve, where history truly comes to life.

Solberg gruve

Solberg Mine was the “jewel” of Næs Ironworks, where the ore used for iron production was extracted. On a guided tour, you can enter the old mine tunnels, hear stories about the lives of miners in the 18th and 19th centuries, and see how iron ore was taken from the mountain. All visits take place together with a guide.

Tvedestrand Fjordhotell Restaurant

After a morning filled with impressions, it is a natural choice to sit down for a meal at Tvedestrand Fjordhotell Restaurant. The restaurant serves modern Nordic cuisine with clean and simple flavours, prepared using local ingredients. With views over the fjord, the meal becomes a calm and atmospheric experience before you continue your day in Tvedestrand.

End the day here

Tvedestrand Fjordhotell is idyllically located by the guest harbour in the heart of town and is the perfect place to end the day. Take a stroll through the town centre and visit the charming boutique shops before checking in. The hotel offers bright and comfortable rooms, many with balconies and views, as well as a calm atmosphere that makes it easy to unwind after a day filled with experiences.

 

 


 

Day 2:

On your second day in Tvedestrand, the journey continues out into the archipelago. You can take the scheduled ferry to Sandøya and experience island life with small paths, beaches and cosy places to eat, or spend the day exploring more of the coastal culture on the mainland. Whatever you choose, a relaxing and memorable end to your stay awaits.

Visit Sørlandet

Sandøya

Continue your sightseeing adventure to the delightful island of Sandøya, a car free island with a relaxed atmosphere and diverse natural scenery. From Tvedestrand, it is about a 15. minute drive before you park and take the scheduled ferry across. Here, charming wooden houses, small paths and inviting beaches await, perfect for a refreshing swim. Sandøya is best explored on foot or by bicycle.

Ragnvalds Artisan Sausage Producer

On the island of Sandøya, you will find Ragnvalds Artisan Sausage Producer, where sausages are crafted using high-quality meat and locally sourced ingredients. The selection ranges from classic varieties to more distinctive flavours, including blue cheese sausages and salsiccia.

The sausages are served in the onsite café and can be enjoyed in the cosy garden, often accompanied by cured meats and other selected delicacies. This is a relaxed and flavourful stop that offers a true taste of local food culture in idyllic island surroundings.
