Lindesnes Lighthouse is Norway's oldest lighthouse station and the southernmost point on the Norwegian mainland. Here you will find a museum, a dining place, and accommodation options.

Lindesnes Lighthouse is a modern museum that is open year-round. With a spectacular location where the sea meets the southernmost point of Norway, this is a popular photographic subject.

The lighthouse itself is open to the public and is designated as the National Lighthouse Museum. In the large cavern beneath the lighthouse, there is a cafe, film screenings, exhibitions focusing on the development and history of lighthouses, and coastal culture. On the premises, there is a dedicated museum shop, dining establishment, and gallery.

A visit to Lindesnes Lighthouse provides insight into Norwegian maritime history. The lighthouse, which is Norway's oldest, was first lit on February 27, 1656. It consisted of 30 tallow candles burning at the top of a three-story tower. Despite being replaced with a coal flame later that fall, constant complaints from seafarers led the king to order the lighthouse to be extinguished after only a few months of operation.

In 1725, lighthouse operations were resumed. It was then decided that there should be two lights at Lindesnes to avoid confusion with the lighthouse at Skagens Odde! Until 1844, there were coal flame beacons both at Neset and at Markøy, 4 kilometers to the northwest.

A visit to Lindesnes Lighthouse is a encounter with the sea. Seawater is used in various products such as soaps and schnapps, which are sold in the museum shop. It is also the main ingredient in their delicious lighthouse bread, which contains seawater and seaweed.
