Discover the Christmas Magic
Welcome to Tvedestrand, where Christmas truly feels at home. Bring your loved ones and enjoy a festive season filled with light, laughter and genuine holiday joy.
Start of Advent in the town
On the first Saturday of Advent, Tvedestrand invites you to the traditional opening of the Christmas streets with a Christmas market and the lighting of the Christmas tree. The town’s Christmas workshop opens for the first time this day, and you can stroll through the sparkling streets and enjoy the scent of pine and warm gløgg.
Together with the Nissetog winding its way through the centre, you can also enjoy a horse and carriage ride on this day, creating a Christmas atmosphere you can truly feel.
Activities throughout Advent
Throughout December, there is plenty to experience in Tvedestrand, and the town offers a range of cosy activities for both children and adults. The Christmas workshop and playroom are open on weekends, and you can join a fun rebus trail or discover new favourites at small events around the town.
In addition, the Lucia celebration, late-night shopping and welcoming places serving Christmas porridge and gløgg all help create the warm and charming Advent atmosphere Tvedestrand is known for.

Nissetog and Christmas joy
The Nissetog in Tvedestrand runs every Saturday in December, travelling from Alti Grisen through the town centre and down to the harbour. You can hop on and off as you like, and along the route you will find a Christmas market, a cosy workshop and a playroom for children.
There is also a weekly rebus trail with prizes, and on Torvet you can take a break and snap festive photos by the well-known Strykejernet.
The town behind Skomakergata
Tvedestrand is the town that inspired Skomakergata – it was here that Bjørn Rønningen found the inspiration for the well-known and beloved Christmas series, and you can truly feel it. Christmas magic lives in every corner, and it is almost impossible not to be reminded of childhood memories as you walk through the streets of this little town dressed in its winter coat.
