3. Knaben Via Ferrata
If you are ready to challenge your fear of heights and experience a real sense of achievement, Knaben Via Ferrata is the place to go. The route is set on Mount Knabekniben, 786 metres above sea level, and follows parts of a former mining area. This adds a historical dimension to the hike, alongside the spectacular views. The route is rated as moderately challenging and offers a strong feeling of height, while remaining well secured with steel cables and steps throughout.

5. Knaben Mining Museum
Join the popular guided tour The Abandoned Mine and explore the history of molybdenum mining that shaped the area from the late 19th century until 1973. During the Second World War, molybdenum was of great importance to the armaments industry. The exhibitions feature photographs and objects that tell the story of the miners’ lives and the development of the local community. The museum presents both the technical aspects of the mining operations and Knaben’s mining and wartime history. The guided tour lasts about one hour, and warm clothing is recommended, as the mine maintains a constant temperature of 7 degrees.

6. Bøkkerbua at Feda
Bøkkerbua is located by the river in Feda and offers an insight into traditional barrel making. Here you can watch barrels being made in various sizes and purchase a unique piece of craftsmanship. The tradition began around 1810, when the rich herring fisheries along the southwest coast created a strong demand for barrels used for salting and storing herring. At its peak, 12 to 13 cooper workshops were in operation, and most of the barrels were exported, including to Iceland.
During the summer season, you can experience traditional cooperage as it was practised more than 100 years ago.
