Most people driving to Southern Norway take one of the three main roads: RV 9 from the north, E18 from the east, or E39 from the west.
You can also choose alternative routes, such as the coastal routes that take you through the charming towns along the coast, where you can experience beautiful harbors, local cuisine, and meet friendly people. From Risør in the east to Flekkefjord in the west, it's a little over 200 kilometers, and Southern Norway is perfect for road trips with many stops along the way.
Color Line offers two daily arrivals to Kristiansand from Hirtshals in Denmark. The crossing of the Skagerrak with the ferry Superspeed takes 3 hours and 15 minutes.
Fjord Line also operates a high speed ferry service from Hirtshals to Kristiansand. The catamaran Fjord Cat completes the journey in just 2 hours and 15 minutes.
With modern and comfortable express coaches, travelling by bus to and from Sørlandet is both easy and pleasant. Konkurrenten and Vy operate services between Oslo and Kristiansand.
From Kristiansand, express buses run to Setesdal, Hovden, and Haukeligrend, with onward connections to Oslo, Bergen, and Haugesund via the Haukeliekspressen.
Go Ahead operates several daily train departures between Kristiansand and Oslo and Stavanger. On this route, family friendly compartments for children are also available.
Kristiansand Airport, Kjevik, is located about 10 kilometers outside Kristiansand. From there, it's a short distance to the coastal towns and inland destinations. Widerøe, Norwegian, and SAS offer several daily routes between Kjevik and the major cities in Norway.
KLM has direct routes to Amsterdam, and SAS flies to Copenhagen. There are bus connections from the airport to the major cities in the region, including Arendal, Grimstad, and Lillesand, as well as a shuttle bus to Kristiansand city center.
