By car:
Most people driving to Southern Norway take one of the three main roads: RV 9 from the north, E18 from the east, or E39 from the west. You can also choose alternative routes, such as the coastal routes that take you through the charming towns along the coast, where you can experience beautiful harbors, local cuisine, and meet friendly people. From Risør in the east to Flekkefjord in the west, it's a little over 200 kilometers, and Southern Norway is perfect for road trips with many stops along the way.By ferry:
Color Line offers two daily arrivals to Kristiansand from Hirtshals, Denmark. The boat journey across the Skagerrak with the "Superspeed" takes about 3 hours and 15 minutes. In the summer, Fjordline also offers a high-speed ferry from Hirtshals to Kristiansand. The catamaran "Fjord Cat" covers the distance in just 2 hours and 15 minutes.By bus and train:
Modern and comfortable express buses are a pleasant way to travel to and from Southern Norway. Sørvestekspressen operates between Kristiansand and Stavanger, Lavprisekspressen has bus routes from both the West and East, while Konkurrenten and Nettbuss Express (formerly Sørlandsekspressen, now Vy) run between Oslo and Kristiansand. From Kristiansand, there are also express buses to Setesdal, Hovden, and Haukeligrend, with further connections to Oslo, Bergen, and Haugesund with Haukeliekspressen. There are several daily train departures between Kristiansand and Oslo and Stavanger, and there is a children's compartment available on the route.By plane:
Kristiansand Airport, Kjevik, is located about 10 kilometers outside Kristiansand. From there, it's a short distance to the coastal towns and inland destinations. Widerøe, Norwegian, and SAS offer several daily routes between Kjevik and the major cities in Norway. KLM has direct routes to Amsterdam, Wizz Air to Gdansk, and SAS flies to Copenhagen. There are bus connections from the airport to the major cities in the region, including Arendal, Grimstad, and Lillesand, as well as a shuttle bus to Kristiansand city center. -
