Fishing in Lyngdal

In Lyngdal there are many places to fish, both in fresh and salt water. The 20 kilometer long river Lygna stretches from Hægebostad in the north to Lyngdalsfjorden in the south.

Freshwater fishing

There are many opportunities for freshwater fishing in the area. Lowland waters, mountain waters and small rivers, almost all with lovely trout (Salmo trutta). Other species found in these waterways are also numerous; brook trout, char, salmon, sea trout, flounder, pike, carp and minnow. In Hægebostad there are many lakes with good fishing opportunities.

Sea fishing

In the coastal municipalities there are good opportunities for sea fishing. It is possible to fish both from land and from a boat. As in all other sea areas, fishing luck is partly dependent on the seasons, weather and wind. The coastline is very rich in fish. Mackerel, sea trout, cod, ling, ling and pollock are the most common types of fish.

Attractive salmon river in Southern Norway

The river Lygna in Lyngdal is one of the most attractive salmon rivers in Southern Norway. In 2008, what is considered to be the largest salmon fished in recent times was caught in Lygna. The salmon weighed a whopping 17.6 kg. In addition to being a good salmon river, the nature along Lygna is a great experience. There are several attractions and experiences along the river, and if you take the drive from Lyngdal and up the valley path along the river, it is a great trip.

Salmon ladder

The 20 kilometer long Lygna river contains many activities including a salmon ladder. It is built so that the salmon can swim upwards and pass the Kvåsfossen. You can also find accommodation, camping opportunities, hiking opportunities and great scenery along the river.
