The Tall Ships Races Arendal

For the first time, Arendal has been given the honor of being the official host port for The Tall Ships Races. On 3 – 6 August 2023, the city will be filled with the largest and most beautiful sailing ships in the world.

Arendal has a long tradition and a good reputation as an organizer of international and public events. The warm and friendly atmosphere, hospitality and enthusiasm, combined with beautiful surroundings, make it special for the international crews to come to Arendal.

Tall Ships Races in Arendal 2023

In the same year that the city of Arendal celebrates its 300th anniversary, we can welcome the world's largest and most beautiful sailing ships to the city which, thanks to the sailing ships, was the largest maritime city in the Nordics from about 1850 to 1880. In 1877, as many as 500 ships were registered in Arendal.

At the big race festival in Arendal 3.-6. In August, the following occurs:

- The world's largest regatta for large sailing ships.

- 150 young people from all over Agder will have an experience of a lifetime as fellow sailors from Lerwick to Arendal.

- We expect between 40 and 50 sail ships for the event. The big three Norwegian sail ships are ready in addition to a couple of the world's biggest.

- Free entry on most ships

- Free concerts with Synne Vo, Di Derre, Delillos and Silya and the Sailors as headliners + more.

- Proper cultural program (also free asmission) Children's and family stage with attractions such as Bjørnis, Blekkulf, Captain Redbeard, clowns, magicians, activities and much more.

- For adults, there will be a number of stalls for trade, food trucks etc. Two large tents will be set up with entertainment. Bubbles and Jazz and Shanty tents.

- Separate area for young people with DJ, food stalls and activities, opportunity to meet young people from all over the world.

- There will be a number of pop ups with everything from art, history, yoga, Viking market, dance etc.

Quote from TSRA general manager Sylvia Jacobsen: "It is the business community in Arendal that has so far ensured that we can create this folk festival, together with a large group of volunteers, TSRA is created by local forces. The fact that large parts of Arendal are involved in creating the folk festival makes this extra rewarding!
